There are numerous marriages in Tolkien’s works – but little practical description of the wedding ceremonies themselves, especially in the canonical books. To help authors looking to include wedding ceremonies in their fics, I have gathered a number of resources that may provide insight and inspiration. \n\nCredits: As usual, my thanks to Gwynnyd for taking my plaintive requests for pointers to relevant websites covering 'real life' mediaeval culture as a cue to provide me with a wealth of source materials – and for putting up with me tying myself in knots while I tried to work out just what kind of horribly complex ceremonies would be needed to legitimise the marriage of a Gondorian Prince and the sister of the (then unmarried) King of Rohan. Also thanks to Altariel for providing the correct web address for the excellent source of information on Norse weddings (which I knew existed from the number of broken weblinks to it that I encountered).\n\nTFARA.html#%5B%5BWedding%20Sourcebook%201%5D%5D\n[[Click to show chapter 2. Faramir's odd behaviour on his return from his first month as Captain of the Ithilien Rangers troubles Denethor, both as a father and as Ruling Steward. This article contains information on basic cooking techniques for those “travelling light” with minimal tools and equipment. Each section includes both real-world information and relevant canon quotes from Tolkien. It is by no means exhaustive but should give authors some ideas about how to make campfire scenes more realistic.\n\nThe article was compiled by Tanaqui from information supplied by Gwynnyd, Lyllyn and Maurita. Thanks to Elena Tiriel and Lyllyn for beta-reading. A future companion article is planned which will look at traditional cooking techniques for more settled communities in Middle-earth, or for travellers with a baggage train.\n\n[[Click to show chapter 1. This site seems to work well under the latest versions of Firefox/Mozilla and IE. However, there are some display and link issues with Safari. I’m not sure this was quite what she had in mind – I think she was looking for something a little more uplifting – but this was what came out. \n\nTFAPS.html#%5B%5BThe%20Death%20of%20Glaurung%5D%5D\n

So, of course, I had to try and write some of those ballads. This is loosely based on the story of Aldarion and Erendis, but could apply to any Númenorean mariner.\n\nTFAPS.html#%5B%5BThe%20Mariner%20and%20His%20Wife%5D%5D\n
